| Foothills
students have participated in the following academic teams:
There are a variety of reasons academic
competitions occur at Foothills School.
First and most important, the students are interested.
These events give students who are interested in math and
science
an opportunity
to engage their interest at a deeper level. Students choose
to participate, and they have the opportunity to explore
topics of
interest to them.
Academic teams are a way for students to experience learning
outside the classroom. Many of the coaches are parents and
community members.
Preparation for competition provides students opportunities
to work with a variety of different people and to learn with
other
adult mentors. It also provides the parent community a way
to be involved with students.
Finally students enjoy the opportunity to compete in a safe,
supportive environment. When students win, they get the satisfaction
of having
their hard work recognized and applauded. When students don’t
win, they begin planning on how to improve the next time. Either
way the experience is positive and students always enjoy the
camaraderie provided by being part of the team.
