Balanced Calendar
In 2012-13, Foothills adopted a Balanced Calendar. The decision to move to a Balanced Calendar was made based on research that this approach:
- increases personal and social development among children at all ages;
- reduces the need for content "refresher" time at the beginning of the school year;
- increases faculty satisfaction;
- provides the calendar framework that supports Project Based Learning in every season of the year.
The Calendar for the 2012-13 school year is as follows:
- August 20: First Day of School K-9
- August 20-October 12: Academic Quarter 1
- August 20: First Day of School K-9
- August 24: K-9 School Celebration
- August 27: First Day of School for EL 1:30 p.m. Program
- August 28-29: First Day of School for EL 3:00 p.m. Program
- August 29: Full EL Class First Day
- October 15-25: Intersession I
- October 28-December 14: Academic Quarter 2
- November 21-23: Thanksgiving Break
- December 17-January 4: Winter Break
- January 7 - March 15: Academic Quarter 3
- March 18-22: Intersession II
- March 25-29: Spring Break
- April 1 - June 7: Academic Quarter 4
- June 7: Last day of school 2012-13
