Welcome to Foothills School!
I am thrilled that you are interested in learning more about our school. For the past 27 years, Foothills has offered a progressive education unique in the Treasure Valley.
As a progressive school, we believe that our students need excellent preparation both for school and for life. Through a focus on dispositions and skills like curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and confidence, we provide students with the capacities they need not just for school, but to play an active role in our democratic society.
Foothills students from the Early Learners through 9th grade learn actively and collaboratively. Student voices matter in challenging project-based learning experiences that provide choice and allow children to pursue their interests, understand real-world issues, and master academic benchmarks.
Project Based Learning at Foothills is arts-integrated and community-connected. Visual and performing arts are part of the core of each project. Moreover, projects regularly lead students outside to connect with nearby institutions within walking distance of our campus in the Cultural District of downtown Boise.
These are just a few of the distinguishing elements of our program that also include a Reggio-inspired Early Learner program, Socratic seminar in grades 5-9, lunch out at nearby restaurants, mixed-grade dyad classrooms, flexible math groupings, and classroom jobs that build responsibility and independence.
By embracing each individual’s unique strengths and contributions, we focus on community at Foothills. In our student-centered community, children and adolescents experience a joy that instills an enduring passion for learning.
It’s one thing to read about Foothills, but it's another to see for yourself. Whether you’re a prospective parent or fellow educator, I encourage you to contact us to schedule a visit!
