Head of School Transition

Foothills School of Arts & Sciences is entering an exciting new chapter!

On October 10, 2025, we announced that our Head of School, Nick Cofod, is planning to transition out of his current role by the end of the 2026-2027 school year. Nick's dedication, vision, and leadership have continued to shape Foothills into the exceptional school we know and love, guiding us through challenges and positioning us beautifully for the future.

We are deeply grateful for Nick's thoughtful approach to this transition, which gives our community time to conduct a thorough and inclusive search for our next Head of School. The Board of Trustees has formed a dedicated Search Committee and will soon engage a professional search consulting firm to lead this important process.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Board of Trustees has formed a Head of School Search Committee and will soon select a professional search consulting firm. Nick will continue in his role during this process, ensuring stability and continuity for our school community.

Absolutely not. Your child's daily experience at Foothills will continue uninterrupted. Our faculty and staff remain fully focused on providing the exceptional education and nurturing environment that defines our school. The search process has been carefully designed to run in the background without affecting classroom instruction, programs, or the supportive community your child depends on. Throughout this transition, our commitment to each student's growth and well-being remains our top priority.

The search will officially begin once we have engaged our search consulting firm, expected within the coming weeks. The Search Committee will provide regular updates to the community throughout the process.

We welcome community input! You can provide initial feedback through this form. Additionally, we will seek wisdom from our faculty, staff, administrators, families, and alumni throughout the search process.

Yes! As we approach the transition, the school community will have opportunities to celebrate Nick's remarkable contributions to Foothills. Details about celebration events will be shared as they are planned.

While each search is unique, independent school head searches typically take 6-12 months from start to finish. Our goal is to have our new Head of School selected in advance of Nick's departure to ensure a smooth transition.

The Search Committee will work with the community, faculty, board, and search firm to identify the specific qualities and experience needed for Foothills' next chapter. Community input will be essential in defining these criteria.

Our new Head of School will be selected based on their alignment with Foothills' mission, values, and educational philosophy, as well as with input from faculty and the community about what Foothills needs in this next chapter. Nick's thoughtful approach to transition will allow for collaboration between the current and incoming Head to ensure seamless continuity.

Our Board of Trustees is vested with the selection and hiring of Foothill’s Head of School. The Board’s Search Committee will drive the process, with the support of a professional and independent consulting firm, and make a final recommendation to the full Board at the conclusion of the selection process.
